TRYING:
Like many people right now, I, too am conscious of plastic waste. Which is why when I heard that MINIWIZ had a temporary laboratory at La Promenade, I knew I had to get involved. While there I learned about the whole upcycling process of separating, cleaning, drying, shredding and heating of everyday plastic parts and the ability to form new things. I witnessed some nice sunglasses created from CDs and DVDs. Porcelain-looking pots came from recycling old iPhone screens, lampshades were made from compacted vintage clothes and decorative screens from plastic bottles. I brought a couple of small plastic water bottles with me from my hotel room, and I saw how the blue bottle lids, mixed together with some other recycled particles, became colourful hexagonal tiles which I’ll use as coasters. Witnessed the whole upcycling transformation process happening in minutes, made me feel like I was in some kind of traditional bakery – with creative spirit.
