Shading System

Name: Shading System

Client/Project: Super Dragon Technology Industries E-waste Recycling Plane, Taiwan

Material: Recycled Polycarbonate and Glass Fibers from E-waste and Recycled Nylon from Automotive Waste and E-waste

Initially designed and deployed to solve the architectural challenge of thermal gain through sun exposure, MINIWIZ created a unique shading system at the SDTI e-waste recycling plant in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The central fan of the shading system is made of rPC, recycled from lenses, water containers and corrugated roof sheets. It is reinforced with glass fiber from recycled circuit boards. Both outer parts are Nylon, recycled from fans, door handles and power tool shells. The shading system's natural color is black but it can be spray-painted with colors for delivering a specific aesthetic or integrating with any building style.

The shading system is resistant to any weather condition. Both PC and Nylon's melting points are above 200°C, ensuring a high resistance to particularly hot weather. Moreover, by their nature, plastics are more durable in rainy and humid condition, making for a high performance shield system.

As for wind resistance, the shading system was designed to resist tropical storm wind strength. The materials selected allow the louvers to bend without breaking under extreme wind conditions. Official wind tunnel tests undertaken on the system by the Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology demonstrated the supreme performance of the shading system resisting in excess of 157 MPH conditions resulting in official safety certification.
