Ricefold™

Name: Ricefold™

Client/Project: Multiple Executions

Material: Polycarbonate from Recycled DVDs, Water Containers and LED Lenses

Ricefold™ is an incredibly versatile ceiling module MINIWIZ invented and deployed across a number of projects for multiple clients. Made using the waste husk from rice production which acts as a molecular bond for the main ingredient, polycarbonate, a material made from water bottles and DVDs.

Ricefold™ is multi-dimensional in its performance qualities, making it a strong alternative to heavy and expensive mainstream materials such as gypsum or aluminum. Flat, packable, and fast to assemble, Ricefold™ is also light and strong thanks to its engineered shape, optimized for minimal material usage.

Certified B1 level flame safe, the low-carbon Ricefold™ system can be used as wall / ceiling panels for residential and commercial buildings. A low carbon solution in place of traditional cladding, the translucent Ricefold™ system can be integrated with LED’s to create a diffused lighting effect.

It is designed to utilize geometric folding to give the material structural strength. Thanks to MINIWIZ’s engineering, the precision-cut crease lines are optimized for multiple refolding and reinstallation. The origami design allows the Ricefold™ system to be shipped stacked flat which further minimizes the product’s life cycle carbon footprint.

The lightweight Ricefold™ system can be easily folded into a 3D ceiling panel in less than 20 seconds and installed in standard ceiling T bar. It can be installed on either side for creative ceiling design with the option of coffered ceiling.
