Hops Chair

Name: Hops Chair

Client/Project: Le Blé d'Or

Material: Polypropylene and Spent-Grain from Beer Production

In 2014, MINIWIZ was challenged by Le Blé d'Or, one of the best beer producers and restaurateurs in Taiwan, to open a new restaurant using entirely post-consumer waste combined with the waste of spent grain from their beer manufacturing.

MINIWIZ designed the Hops Chair as part of this project and in doing so created a unique aesthetic based upon an unprecedented material combination.

MINIWIZ deployed the Hops Chair using a Polli-Ber™ plastic material, rPP (recycled Polypropylene) reinforced with spent-grain waste from beer brewing and rPET fabric.

The Hops Chair is an all-around, all-purpose chair suitable for indoor and outdoor use and designed to flex in support for the user, molding around the body shape of the seated individual. The padded areas are covered in PET fabric with various textures and color combinations available, as well as a waterproof fabric which prevents padding from soaking up water, for exterior use. This fabric is the architectural grade, high denier in composition yet soft in handle for a comfortable yet highly durable product. The Hops Chair presents the principle of design in the circular economy.
